INS Delhi Departs from Colombo, Further Solidifies India-Sri Lanka Naval Cooperation !
4th September, Chennai: Indian Naval ship INS Delhi departed from Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sunday after completing a two-day visit to the port city. The Defence Ministry said in an official release that during their stay in the port, several interactions took place between the ship's crew and Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) personnel. "Several interactions including cross-training of personnel on various topics of mutual interest were conducted between the crew of the ship and personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN). A clean-up drive at Crow Island Beach was jointly undertaken by the visiting ship's crew and personnel from SLN”, the release said.
In addition, the ship conducted a familiarization visit for over 200 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and 500 other local visitors. The statement further said, the Commanding Officer of INS Delhi interacted with Admiral Suresh D'Silva, Commander Western Naval Area (COMWEST) and laid a floral tribute at the IPKF Memorial in honour of the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Gopal Bagalay presented the state-of-the-art Arogya Maitri Cube to the Hon'ble Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka during a welcome ceremony held on board INS Delhi. This was done as part of India's 'Arogya Maitri' initiative to provide essential medical supplies to friendly countries. These medical cubes have been indigenously developed under Project Bheeshma
Along with the Speaker, the reception was attended by several senior government officials including the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, the Attorney General, the Defense Secretary and the three service chiefs. The visit concluded with a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea off Colombo between INS Delhi and SLN ship Vijayabahu.
